Let’s start with the dictionary definition. Yoga is a Hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline, a part of which, including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, is widely practiced for health and relaxation.
But, like almost everything in our modern world, yoga has evolved (it originated over 5,000 years ago, making it the original at home fitness option). Today, there are many types of yoga from very traditional to more high-intensity, fitness-based full body workouts.
Bulldog online yoga is NOT traditional. It’s a modern take on power yoga. We offer a variety of class styles without intimidation! – Slow flow (Activate), Power flow (Invigorate), and “Dialed-up” (Exhilarate). All Bulldog Online classes are set to bangin’ playlists making them fun, entertaining and great at home full body workouts!
Power yoga is fitness-based, focusing on building flexibility, strength, and stamina which is a pretty awesome combo for a true full body workout!
And, if you’re looking to burn calories doing yoga, power yoga is a great choice.
All Bulldog Online yoga classes are considered to be power yoga. We deliver the best at home fitness experience! Our streaming classes vary in intensity from Activate - a slower flow (longer, deeper poses) to Invigorate – a speedy flow (quick moving and pretty intense) to Exhilarate – a fast flow which also incorporates resistance band work for an additional boost of strength and cardio work.
For sure! Yoga is the original full body workout routine. Yoga can boost weight loss, enhance muscle strength and endurance along with lowering blood pressure in those who have hypertension. Check out this great article from The Harvard Medical School.
It sure can be! If you decide to do fast paced (often called power flow yoga) classes, you’ll get a great, heart pumping cardio workout at home. And, as you work deeper into poses, the cardio benefits grow.
Glad you asked. When you do online yoga at home / online fitness at home (or anywhere you choose!)...
1) You’ll get a full body workout when it’s convenient for you.
2) You’ll save time - No more making time to run over to the gym or studio.
3) You’ll save money - It’s super affordable (no need to buy all those expensive outfits).
Daily yoga has been shown to significantly improve the overall sleep quality in people with insomnia, according to a Harvard University study. In addition to its more known physical benefits, Alyssa Dweck, MD and co-author of V Is for Vagina, a complete guide for women, explains yoga “not only tones your muscles, but it improves your flexibility, increases your core stability, and strengthens your pelvic floor muscles-which translates into a tighter down-there grip and stronger orgasms.”
Maybe you think yoga’s too boring, too slow, too serious? Maybe you just ain’t into gongs and chimes? Maybe, just maybe, you think the whole yoga thing is really intimidating - instructions in an ancient language, instructors who seem to talk down to you, “yogis” who make you feel like you sometimes don’t belong?
If any (or all) of those “maybes” hit home, then, you’re a Bulldog! This fun, fitness-fueled yoga is all about what you want - not what some “yoga expert” says you should want. Improve your fitness and strength, get flexible and, yes, have some fun. Listen to bangin’ playlists (everything from pop to rock to country) and do it for you! Don’t fret about any of the typical yoga/fitness studio “scene”.
Music nourishes the brain - we all need a bit of that! A study by the National Institute of Health (NIH) found that listening to music you enjoy increases the electrical activity in the regions of the brain that are responsible for coordinating movements along with additional studies by the NIH that have also shown that music is especially influential during repetitive, endurance activities.
Bulldog Yoga Online mixes the brain benefits of music with the body benefits of yoga into one happy, sweaty, awesome brew. The result - HECK YEAH! Maybe we’ve discovered your fountain of fun and youth? :)
Get more of what’s so valuable to you - Extra time! It’s meant to be super-easy and convenient. First things first - have fun, do what you can and enjoy yourself. Know that you're doing something really good for your body and mind and don't take it too seriously.
Next, go step by step - don't try to do too much at once. And, as you get stronger/more flexible, don't be afraid to challenge yourself - a little at a time.
Bulldog is designed for everyone - from people looking for beginner yoga to people wanting a really challenging full body workout.
Our Activate classes are often a great place to start - they move at a slower pace which gives you more time to settle into and explore each pose. Once you feel comfortable with this pace, give the Invigorate and/or Exhilarate classes a go!
And, don't forget - it's all about getting the benefits of this amazing exercise. Yoga Journal lists 38!
Because you have different needs on different days, right? Sometimes, you want to take it slow and get a good stretch and others you’re looking for a kick-ass full body workout. Often, it’s somewhere in between.
Yoga is a really great overall workout for your health and keeping active. So, even if you only practice for one hour a week, you will get the benefits of a full body workout. You’ll see the difference!
If you can do more than just one yoga class per week, you will start to experience many more benefits. We suggest starting out with two or three classes a week then growing from there, if you want.
Just remember, listen to your body and go at your own pace that’s comfortable to you. Don’t set unreasonable expectations for yourself - the key is to set goals that you can sustain.
Because it’s a crazy good full body workout for you!
Yoga is an amazing full body workout at any age. You’ll get stronger, fitter and more flexible. WebMD writes that yoga classes are a great activity to help control diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even heart disease. Yoga also helps with those “just out of bed” aches and pains!
1) We strongly recommend finding a class type that you really love at first and start there.
2) Stay hydrated!
3) Wear comfortable clothing (or none at all, if that’s your bag!).
4) Make sure to breathe when you’re in class - all of us often, unintentionally, hold our breath.
5) Remember to have fun! Yoga doesn’t have to be sooooo serious! Be sure to smile, laugh, and - if it’s your thing - sing your heart out (especially to our awesome music playlists).
